Where Is Paris?

In my opinion, it is easier to find the absolute location of cities on a map than it is a country (simply because you can use any place in the country as the center point). The absolute location of Paris, France is 48° N, 2° E.

The relative location (just like the one of France) will be different for both of us. I said that Paris, France is Southwest of Belgium, Southeast of the English Channel, West of Switzerland and Montreuil, and North of Lyon. You can use the map to the left, Google Maps, or an atlas to find your own relative locations for Paris, France.

Where is Tours?

Tours, France isn't a "big" city in France, but that doesn't mean you can't know the absolute location of it! The absolute location of Tours is located at 47° N, 0.6892° E.

Since Tours is surronded by many other small cities in France, I decided to compare it to much bigger places for its relative location. So, the relative location for Tours, France is Southwest of Paris, West of Switzerland and the Bay of Biscay, North of Bordeaux, and East of Bourges, France.

Where In The World Is France?

On the map, you will find that France is located on the map at 47.0000° N, 2.0000° E. You can find this two ways. You can either 1)search it on Google/Google Maps or 2) find an atlas or globe, and trace the lines of longitude and latitude until you get to France.

The relative location of France would be West of Switzerland, Northeast of Spain, South of the United Kingdom, and East of the Bay of Biscay. My relative location for France will be different from your relative location for France, seeing as we both will use different points to refer to.

Location: Where Exactly Is France?

As geographers, you can't simply say "France is in Europe". You have to give specifics! In order to say where in the world France is, you have to use absolute and relative location. You may be wondering what these things are. Relative location is when you give coordinates using the lines of longitude and latitude. You have to include whether it is North, South, East, or West and refer to them in degrees. You can also use relative location. Relative location is when you say where something is in the world using it's surroundings. For example, the United States is west of the Atlantic Ocean, south of Canada, north of Mexico, and east of the Pacific Ocean. Below, I will tell you the absolute and relative location of France and the absolute and relative location of two cities in France.
